another mug rug

Hi friends.  I apologize that this blog has been so neglected.  It's not that I haven't been creating, because I have. 

The last weekend of July and the first week of August was the Dare to Get Dirty Challenge scramble (haha, for want of a better description) on SCS.  The challenges are for SCS fan club members only as a special thank you for supporting the site.  This is an annual event, and this year there were a total of 42 challenges during that week.  There are random prizes drawn for participants, and some special prizes for those who create a separate card for each challenge, also called the challenge queens.  I qualified as a queen this year, so by the time the week was over, I was pretty exhausted.  I happened to win one of the prizes this year, which I think is pretty cool. It's a $25 gift certificate for Serendipity Stamps.  I'm going to have a hard time choosing.

I also wanted to show you the special mug rug I made for Lydia's birthday, which is Wednesday.  She has a couple of rescue cats, and designed a cat image for some merchandise.  I wanted her mug rug to be meaningful to her, so I used her cat image as a starting point.  The cat is hand appliqued and the features are machine appliqued.  I did a lot of funky hand quilting in the background. 

I hope she loves it.   She should have received it, so I feel free to post this.

Hi friends.  This is the final bunch of cards from the dare to get dirty challenges on SCS. 

Two simple layouts using some designer paper.  Both of these were used in my cuttlebug class. 

 

I changed this blue one just a bit for class, because I didn't have enough of the floral paper.  So in class, we stamped an image and used a blender pen to spread the ink.  I like both versions.

This card was so each.  The background is one piece of designer paper, so all I did was add the flags.

I used some DIY spray paint for the background on this card.  This is one of my favorites of all the cards that I made.

I pulled my color scheme from the Prima designer paper. 

The background was made by stamping each sentiment many times.  I used the same phrase from six different stamp sets.

Hi friends.  Here's the next installment of dare to get dirty challenge cards. 

Meticulously cutting out flowers... I do that a lot. 

A triangle card.  I struggled to come up with an idea for this one.  To color on the kraft cardstock, you emboss the image, then color with white ink, dry it, and then add color. 

A set of 3"x3" note cards with a belly band. I made the envelopes with my envelope punch board.

Hi friends.  I hope you're not getting tired of these cards that I made for dare to get dirty on SCS.  I still have many to show you. 

The Fluffles stamps from Stampendous always make fun cards.  I added a tree branch with a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die. 

A card with a lot of texture.  The leaf is die cut from acetate and colored on the back with alcohol inks. 

I bought this baby bottle die a number of years ago.  I finally decided to use it.  The words and dots are from a sheet of rub-ons.

Hi friends.  Here are some more of the cards I did for the dare to get dirty challenges on SCS. 

I used a little faux washi tape on this one. 

This idea for lego blocks isn't original, but makes a fun card.  My daughter's boyfriend, who collects legos, was the recipient of the card. 

Another shot shows some of the dimension.  I really does look better in person. 

Inspiration for this card was derived from things I was wearing - a watch and a blue t-shirt.

I used a stencil that I won from Artistcellar on this one. 

This is the first time I've used this poppy stamp from SU. 

A fun technique (or not) of weaving pattern papers for a background.  And then I had to cut out that leaf twice!
