cake inspiration

Hi my friends.  A second post today.  Stephanie asked if I would make a sample for this week's inspiration challenge on SCS, so of course I said yes.  The site used this week, Maggie Austin Cakes,  has some really awesome cakes.  The one I chose for my inspiration is called peony frill.  To simulate the frilly frosting, I punched rows and rows of eyelet lace edging.

For the big flower, I used my peony nestabilities dies (spellbinders) with shimmery white card stock.  I spritzed the layers with water and then added tangerine ink refill.  I like how that gives a bit of variance in color.  When the flower layers were almost dry, I crumpled them up and then flattened them back out somewhat, forming a more dimensional flower.  I also snipped in a bit several times around each layer to give more of a look of petals.  I attached the layers together with a bit of glue and a black brad and used dimensional tape to adhere it to the card.

The black strip of card stock represents the strings going around the cake.  And then I added a tiny tag with a sentiment from an older SU set.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  Your comments are appreciated.
