how excellent is Thy name

Hello, my friends.  We've been having more spring-like temperatures here and tonight we are supposed to get all the way down to 25 - brrrrr.  But that means frost and since my asparagus has been up for a couple of weeks already - tastes yummy, too, I either need to pick what's up or cover it.  No brainer - I'll pick it, even if it's tiny little shoots.  I also have one lilac that is partially open.  Frost will kill those blossoms.  I don't know whether I could cover that or not, though.  It's pretty tall.

Last night I finished another journal page - this one for the Divine Design Bible Verse challenge 2012 on SCS.  This will be my April page.  Quite by accident, this page also fits the ways to use it challenge today on SCS.

The background has a very cool technique that I found on willowing.ning.com, using acrylic paint, a stencil and water.  (I think you may have to join the site to view the video.)  Unfortunately, I thought it background was too dark and ended up covering most of it with watered down white paint.

I stamped this great big Hero Arts flower (using some masking) over the paint with black archival ink and then colored with prismacolor pencils, blending with the colorless blender pencil.  I kinda like the way the brush strokes show through the coloring.  I drew the leaves on and colored them the same way.

The butterfly (SU - wonderful wings) was stamped on a piece of white card stock and colored the same way as the flowers, and then glued onto the page.

I printed the verse on my computer, cut it apart and edged the sides with black marker.

To finish off the page, I added just a small amount of doodling around the edge.

I'm really enjoying doing art journal pages.  I think the biggest draw for me is that there are no rules, and no expectations, which means I can just play.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful day.
