a new punch

Hey bloggers. Are you all staying warm? We have certainly been having some cold weather - not frigid, just cold - in the teens and 20s. So it's been nice to just stay inside and work on my quilt. But, I did do a bit of stamping yesterday and today.

Yesterday for the ways to use it challenge on SCS, the challenge was to use something new, so I decided to use one of my newest punches from SU. This is the first card I made with it.

This is a pretty simple card. The card base is gable green. The next layer is also gable green. First I stamped the sentiment in elegant eggplant and then embossed the piece with my cuttlebug and swiss dots embossing folder.

The green lace is wrapped around the white and that is glued down. It was something I found in my stash and it matched perfectly.

The rest of the card is made with my 2-step bird punch. There are 3 parts to the punch; the branch, the bird and the wing. Each is punched from different paper. I popped up the bird for a little bit of dimension.

I have another card that I made tonight for this week's inspiration challenge on SCS. This card only took me about 10 minutes. I think it took longer to get out my supplies and put them away than it did to make the card. It's a one layer card with no embellishments. The sentiment is on the inside of the card, but you can see it through a punched out circle in the card front.

For my inspiration, I used this piece called Indigo and Onyx.

I started with a piece of blue cardstock (non-SU). I wheeled very vintage jumbo wheel (SU) in ballet blue to fill the card. Then I inked up Aida Cloth (SU) in ballet blue and finger walked to get a kind of mottled image. Then using night of navy ink, I stamped Wild Fairy Lily (Hero Arts) repeatedly along the bottom of the card.

I used a 1-3/8" circle punch to make a hole and then stamped the sentiment (Hero Arts) through the opening onto the inside of the card. I used a sponge dauber to add some ballet blue around the circle and the edges of the card. And Done!

Tomorrow I'm going to a Christmas party. Yes, you read that right. This is my bobbin lace guild Christmas party. It was postponed last month because of bad weather. We always have a good time. We work on our projects for awhile and then we exchange small gifts and eat. Well... I think we eat the whole time. I baked some pumpkin cheesecake bars to take along. Yummy!

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Have a wonderful weekend.

Such beautiful cards melody. I love the blue card with the vintage wheel. I just ordered that. The bird is pretty also, love that the wing is a different color.

While I like the bright and cheery bird (and will probably have to get that punch at some point) I LOVE your second card!! I really like how you did the BTG and then the over stamping....
