dreaming

Hello, my friends.  More snow today.  It started late last night, and this morning everything was white, including all the trees.  So pretty, but it was a heavy wet snow.  I let my DD take my car today, so she didn't have to clear hers off.  I did go out and shovel the driveway mid morning.  It didn't take all that long, but I imagine that I'll be feeling some sore spots tomorrow.

I have another journal page to show you today.  I made this for one of the challenges at OSWE Yahoo group.  It was a new technique to try.  Basic layers (drying in between): gesso, acrylic paints, crumbled tissue paper, more paint dry brushed, and then your images, stamping, or journaling, etc.

With the crumbled tissue, there is a lot of texture on this page.  I like texture, so that was fun.

About a week ago, it was decided that each day, a quote would be added on the Yahoo group site, so I decided to use one of those on my page.

I wasn't all that sure I was going to like how this one turned out, since I'm still not comfortable with painting.  How much or how little to add; what colors to use and how many; which direction to paint; it's all rather confusing, since I don't think there are really any guidelines.  The background was rather dark, so before I added the final layer, I added some white with a dry brush technique, which really lightened it up.  And once I added the quote and stamped images, I really like it.

I guess it's important to me that the background doesn't take control and there is a focal point to draw you in.  I've never had any formal art training, other than what you get in high school, and that is pretty limited.  And today, there are so many more mediums available than back then.  So this is really all new to me.

The flowers are from SU Doodle This, stamped with tuxedo black memento ink and colored with copic markers.  The butterfly is from SU Flores suaves and was one of those bits in my stash of completed images.  I think it might be colored with twinkling H2O's.  I added some white gel pen to both the flowers and butterfly.  I drew the stems and leaves with whiteout pen, copic marker and sharpie marker.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hi Melody, I love your latest page. I too; am struggling along with the "arty" side of journalling. I'm still finding it difficult to keep covering up a perfectly good looking background....lol! Knowing when to stop seems to be the secret ingredient. Hope you will pop into my blog and take a look at my latest journal page too.
Kind Regards
Judith
