Happy Thanksgiving

OK, so it's a little early, but my weekly class asked for Thanksgiving cards, and the sketch challenge on Splitcoast today worked perfectly with this set that I just received yesterday.

First I stamped the flannel plaid background on the creamy caramel card base. Then I stamped the leaf from Autumn Harvest on the really rust strip, which I layered on black and then attached to the card. I stamped happy thanksgiving over the flannel plaid in chocolate chip ink. The pumpkins and gourds are colored with watercolor crayons and aqua painter. Rather than masking, I cut out some and glued them in front to give more depth. The small pumpkin in the front is raised on mounting tape, as is the image panel. I used my crop-a-dile to attached rust eyelets and then threaded natural hemp through the eyelets and tied the ends. All images, ink and card stock are Stampin' UP!.
Recipe - stamps: autumn harvest, flannel plaid, all year cheer III (retired)
ink: jet black stazon, chocolate chip, creamy caramel, really rust
card stock: creamy caramel, really rust, basic black, very vanilla
accessories: watercolor crayons, aqua painter, crop-a-dile, rust eyelets, natural hemp, mounting tape

A little hello

Happy Monday, everyone. I hope you're all having a great day. Lately it seems that I've been using mostly fall colors and a little bit of Christmas as well. I thought I needed a change, so I made a bright summery card for my class tomorrow.
I used so swirly jumbo wheel in more mustard ink on the apricot strip and also for the flower center. The leaves and stem are stamped in green galore ink. The flower petals are stamped in brilliant blue and colored with watercolor pencils and aqua painter. The leaves and petals are cut out and glued over the stem.

The sentiment is stamped in night of navy ink on apricot and punched out with the large oval punch, and raised on mounting tape.

Although there is a bit of cutting involved, it is a very simple card to make. All product is SU, with the exception of the 5/8" punch and mounting tape.

Recipe - stamps: pick a petal, bodacious bouquet, vases in vogue, so swirly wheel
card stock: brilliant blue, apricot appeal, green galore, gable green, very vanilla
ink: brilliant blue, more mustard, green galore, night of navy
Thanks for stopping by.

accessories: large oval punch, mounting tape.

Peaceful trees

Happy Sunday! I totally overslept this morning. I woke at 6:30 and fell right back asleep and didn't wake again until 8:00. Since that was not enough time to get ready for church, I decided to stamp instead. This is a Z-fold card that I made for the weekend sketch challenge on Beate's blog
I will also use this card in my class this week.

The trees are stamped in versamark and embossed in gold. Then I added dazzling diamonds glitter on the snow. On the inside panel, I used the spray from peaceful wishes and stamped off once before stamping the card around the edges. The punched star is raised on mounting tape.

Recipe - stamps: lovely as a tree, peaceful wishes
card stock: very vanilla, ruby red, garden green, summer sun
ink: versamark, garden green
accessories: gold ep, heat tool, star punch, mounting tape, 2-way glue, dazzling diamonds glitter

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day.

Christmas masquerade

The ways to use it challenge in Splitcoast today was to use some form of masking, so I created a card using reverse masking. I cut an oval in scrap paper using a Fiskars Shape Template. I adhered it to my card stock with temporary adhesive. Then I stamped the tree from season of joy in wild wasabi. I sponged around the inside of the oval with brocade blue. Then I covered the oval with versamark ink, removed the mask and any adhesive residue, and embossed with iridescent ice ep. It is very sparkly IRL.

I backed the image piece with handsome hunter cs, and added a rhinestone brad in place of the star atop the tree, but thought it was too plain around the outside, so I added spirelli in each corner with silver cord.

The card base is stamped in brocade blue using so swirly jumbo wheel, and the sentiment in stamped in handsome hunter. The image panel is raised on mounting tape.

Recipe:
Stamps - season of joy, star-studded season, so swirly jumbo wheel (SU)
Ink - wild wasabi, brocade blue, handsome hunter, versamark
Card stock - brocade blue, handsome hunter, very vanilla
Accessories - iridescent ice ep, heat tool, jewel brad, sponge, silver cord, needle, mat pack, piercing tool, mounting tape

A Basic Friend

Hello. I hope you are all having a wonderful week.

Wednesday's card challenge on Splitcoast is a sketch. I decided to work around a piece of Basic Grey Stella Ruby paper that I had on my desk from another project. Pulling colors from the designer paper makes it easy to choose a color scheme. I chose river rock, always artichoke and black. The stamps are from the SU set True Friend.

The background is the flower sprig stamped randomly in river rock in on river rock card stock, and the sentiment is stamped on a smaller piece of the same color in basic black ink. I matted both the dp and the sentiment with black and artichoke. Above and below the sentiment, I added piercing, using my piercing tool and mat pack. I added mellow moss eyelets with my crop-a-dile along the left side of the dp and faux stitching around the edges of the card base. The sentiment is raised on mounting tape.

Recipe: Stamps - true friend (SU)
Card stock: river rock, always artichoke, basic black (SU), Stella Ruby dp (Basic Grey)
Ink: river rock & basic black (SU)
Accessories: mat pack, piercing tool, mellow moss eyelets, crop-a-dile, mounting tape.

Thanks for stopping by.

western flair & a little magic

Hello. I hope you're all having a great weekend. On Saturday, the inspiration challenge on Splitcoast was a painted gourd. I used a similar color scheme and tried to mimic some of the design elements. I love the look of all the copper dots on the black, so I used lots of brads and ended up with a very western looking card. The background is stamped in ruby red classic ink with images from SU's Wanted and Cowboy Kid. The main image is from Baroque Motifs. I stamped it in ruby red craft ink and embossed it with clear ep. Then I trimmed around the image and matted it on a black circle. The tan card stock is stamped using ruby red and creamy caramel ink and the rough around the edges jumbo wheel. I punched out a circle, cut it in half and mounted it on each side of the main image. I was going to add a sentiment, but there really wasn't room.

Card recipe: baroque motifs, cowboy kid, wanted, rough around the edges jumbo wheel (all SU)

ruby red, black and confetti tan card stock

creamy caramel, ruby red classic & craft ink

mat pack, piercing tool, antique copper brads, super jumbo circle punch (Uchida)

My 2nd card is for the October challenge over on Tracy's blog. This is a themed challenge using either a Disney or Hawaiian theme. Since I don't have any stamps for either, I decided to use this angel stamp as a fairy. I eliminated the halo and added a magic wand. I colored her with prismacolor pencils and gamsol. Although the picture doesn't do it justice, this card just sparkles. I added stickles on the fairy's dress and wings, as well as at the end of her wand and falling like fairy dust. I also put stickles in each scallop around the sentiment, which was printed on my computer and punched with SU's scallop circle punch. The edges of the main image panel, as well as the circle, are sponged with ballet blue classic ink. The fiber is from my stash and worked perfectly with the theme and color scheme.
Card recipe:
Stamps: angel (Oscars Rubber Stamps)
Card stock: bashful blue, ballet blue and vanilla
Ink: jet black stazon and ballet blue
Accessories: sparkly fiber, stickles, scallop circle punch, sponge, prismacolor pencils, gamsol, stump, mounting tape
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day.

Copper accents

I made this card yesterday for the October fan club challenge over on Splitcoast. This challenge was to use copper on your card, so I used brads, a clip and spirelli. Instructions for the spirelli corner can be found here. The card stock edges are all sponged in chocolate chip ink.
Recipe: all stamps Inkadinkado
Ink: certainly celery, creamy caramel, chocolate chip, always artichoke, brocade blue
Card stock: chocolate chip, certainly celery, very vanilla
Accessories: copper cord, brads and clip, mat pack & piercing tool, ticket corner punch, sponge, mounting tape
Thanks for stopping by.

A gift frame

Hello. Yesterday's ways to use it challenge on Split Coast was to use wood. I had a plain wooden frame that I had purchased at Michael's for $1 that fit the challenge. First I painted the edges with cream acrylic paint. Then I glued a piece of Basic Grey Stella Ruby paper to the front and sanded the edges. I also sponged all the edges with chocolate chip dye ink. I added the large swirl from Pollen Dust (Autumn Leaves) in the upper left and lower right corners using chocolate chip craft ink. I then heated the ink to make sure it was completely dry. I coated the entire frame with a clear decoupage medium (2 coats) to give it a nice satin finish.

For the embellishments, I have a garland of flowers from JoAnns that I think are hydrangeas, which are white, blue and purple. I pulled a bunch of them off the garland and colored them with Copic marker R27. They are glued in stacks of 4. The center consists of a small flower punched from brushed copper card stock and a large gold paper fastener (brad), sanded, dipped in chocolate chip craft ink and clear embossed. The leaves are from the same garland. I cut them apart and colored them with Copic marker G99. Everything is attached to the frame with craft glue dots. The ribbon is 1/4" grosgrain, cranberry and spring moss (colored with the same Copic G99). I used a picture from a mailing rather than leave it blank.
